Here are a few thoughts about using Minky & other plush fabrics on the back of your quilt:

Minky has some stretch, usually more stretch one way than the other.  A walking foot is helpful for piecing Minky.  A larger seam allowance is good when pieicing Minky- more like 1/2" to 1" is better than trying to do a normal 1/4" seam.

When using dark Minky, and a lighter quilt top, the longer fibers of the Minky can pull through to the top with the quilt stitches.  Using a lighter/matching color on the back can help with this.

Some quilters ask if batting is necessary with Minky, I usually do use a batting.  I've used the Hobbs Heirloom quite a bit, and also Quilter's Dream Request weight works well- it's very thin, just enough to fill out the quilt.

The quilt can be bound just like a cotton quilt, just take time to notice the direction of the Minky nap, as it can push the binding strips one way or the other.  If you take your time, it will work out ok.

I still need the extra 3-5" inches of backing, larger than the quilt top, this is especially important with Minky, as I may need to trim the edges to straighten them.

A panel quilt... I used the Last Leaves pattern with a fine thread, so the quilting didn't overpower the deer scene.

Three t-shirt memory quilts.  The layout is similar on all 3, but the fabrics and quilting patterns are very different.

Baby quilts

I've made a few small quilts lately using fabrics I had on hand mostly.  All 4 of them are about 40"x45". I cut all the binding on the bias, and did rounded corners.  I am really liking this lately for baby quilts, seems like a softer edge than a pointy square corner. 

This one is quilted with the "Autobahn" pattern...  Can you see the block I turned the wrong way?

This next one is quilted with the "Animal Crackers" pattern.

It has a solid blue back, and the quilting pattern shows up well.

This one is mostly flannel, and was quilted with the "Double Bubble" pattern.

His one is quilted with the basic meander pattern.

The next one is quilted with the Criss-cross pattern.... I think it looks like tire tracks. 

Another baby quilt- hearts

A quick baby quilt that I put together recently.  I saw the pieced heart block tutorial on www.cluckclucksew.com, and had to try it out.  The blocks went together quickly, and was fun way to use up some scraps from other projects.

I quilted it with the "I Love It" pattern, so there's even more hearts added there.  Pink fleece for the back of the quilt.

Baby quilt

Showing you a baby quilt that I made recently.  I just started with a rectangle of fabric, and added borders.  The kitty sillouette I found and enlarged to the right size.  The butterflies have embroidered antennas.

Two new patterns

Driving from the south

Starting this week, the bridge 1/2 mile south of our house on Kingbird Avenue is being worked on, so the road is closed there.  If you are coming here from Newkirk, then you will need to take a 3 mile detour around the section on gravel.  To avoid that, you'll need to go to highway 18 and come 3 miles south on Kingbird to get to our house.
