barn quilt

Here is the excitement for today at our farm: a barn quilt! I have been working on this in the basement for the past few weeks. It's 2 sheets of outdoor-grade plywood. I used semi-gloss exterior paint. C & Dad put some 2x4's on the back to make a frame to support it. Then came the tricky part, getting it actually up on the barn. It just so happens that we have the use of a bucket truck right now for cutting down some big trees, and thankfully I had all the painting done in time. There was some head-scratching & brainstorming of ideas on how they could get an 8-foot by 8-foot quilt up there. It was finally decided that they would nail up a support to rest the weight on, and then get a couple screws in at the top. Then go around & secure the sides.

I saw this pattern on a barn quilt in a magazine that I had clipped quite a long time ago. Does anyone know the name of the pattern?
I am really happy with how it turned out. In the magazine picture, it was hung on point, and I liked that look. I think it makes it look bigger than if it was hung square. At the very least, I hope it will distract from the aging barn exterior. :-)

That is so neat! I have a barn behind my house that my son informed me is an "eyesore". I think I need to turn the "eyesore" into a work of art like yours! Thanks for the inspiration!

Did the Barn Quilt block the door ?

Thanks for sharing!
